Hi stayed in Ellison reception staff were friendly and told me exactly what to do. Only thing was shower found it hard to use and because it was over a bath in a fixed position you could not fix it to your height. Breakfast was good good choice on menu and you could order pancakes or porridge there was a lot of choice there also. Thx Ruth

Alan T scored 4 / 5 on 30/04/2022

Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food. No charger for electric car unfortunately but there is a high-speed charger across the road in the petrol station. Would recommend no problem

Would Highly recommend. Having stayed here several times firstly as the Harlequin and now as the Ellison I cannot say enough good things about the place. Staff are always pleasant and always helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Food in the Siar restaurant is always on point would highly recommend the ham terrine as a starter from the Christmas menu. Clean and very covid conscious. We hope to be back again in the New Year. Lisa and all the staff always make us feel highly welcome.

Alfie scored 5 / 5 on 10/12/2021

I really liked the Ellison, the staff were attentive, the food was good, the ambience within the hotel was lovely. The two best points were firstly the room, for us it is always the room, to us a hotel provides shelter for the traveller all else is extra. The room was excellent, clean, practical, lovely practical bathroom and the room service was friendly. The second big positive point was it’s location, we literally walked across a covered gangway and were at the door of the royal theatre, check it out… brilliant. It is across the street from the greenway and yards from all the shopping you would want

Linda scored 5 / 5 on 07/12/2021

Just back from the Ellison after a great weekend in Castlebar. The hotel was really nice - very friendly and helpful staff; good restaurant menu; nice breakfast; short walk to the centre - definitely recommend this hotel.

Laura scored 3 / 5 on 12/10/2021

Hotel room was great, very comfortable. However, we returned to the hotel bar early on the Saturday evening to find it closed at 10:40, when we asked to buy a drink we were refused and told we were only allowed one?!. Usual closing time was 11:30 for all other premises. Disappointing. Otherwise it was a good stay.

Eileen scored 5 / 5 on 12/10/2021

Had a lovely stay from the minute we stepped through the door when we were upgraded because we mentioned we hadn't been back since before covid .. thank you to Lisa. The room was clean and bright with plenty of space. The food as always was fab. Steak and korma curry were delicious. We love the "house" bread and the servers Emilio and gang were great and also the bartender was polite and chatty. Delighted with the level of covid measures and very reassuring to see tables and chairs being sanitised as soon as guests vacated. Breakfast was great too. Would highly recommend and we are looking forward to our next visit.

Very happy with stay ,friendly staff ,the food good and room lovely

Sean scored 3 / 5 on 06/09/2021

Clean, comfortable, Food excellent. Reception staff not very helpful and never smiled once - a smile costs nothing. Dining room staff a little bit better but as i said a smile costs nothing. We had a friend with us with memory loss and we were under stress so a friendly reception etc would have helped. When i say yes i will recommend the Hotel i will tell them all this and let them make up their mind if they want to stay in it or not. My husband and i stayed in the Galway Bay in August and they were so friendly and helpful which meant we were very disappointed with the Ellison Hotel.

Chelsea scored 5 / 5 on 06/09/2021

We recently stay with yourself & right from the start the service was of high standard! Nothing went unnoticed right from the moment we checked in the staff was extremely helpful & very friendly! Will definitely recommend to family and friends! Hopefully we will be back soon!

Lovely, friendly hotel in a convenient location, close to shops & bars. There was a lovely lake walk across from the hotel, you accessed it through an old cemetery. Rooms were a good size & there was good variety in the menu. Would highly recommend this very friendly hotel. Reason for losing a star is the lack of a pool of leisure centre

Anne scored 5 / 5 on 02/07/2021

We had a wonderful 3 night stay in this lovely Castlebar hotel. All areas of the hotel were spotlessly clean, hand sanitisers everywhere including on the tables in the Siar restaurant. Breakfast & dinner was first class, all the staff were so helpful & accommodating. Thank you all.

John scored 5 / 5 on 02/07/2021

Lovely hotel. The food was beautiful the staff are very friendly. Limited choice of draught drinks which is unusual nowadays but the Heineken was really good. The only downside was our room was to the road and it was quite noisy, the few Heineken helped with that. I would definitely come back.

Mark scored 4 / 5 on 29/06/2021

Lovely hotel to stay in. Food was great staff were very helpful and friendly and service was great.

Cianan scored 5 / 5 on 29/06/2021

I booked this trip on Lidl break . The only main problem I experienced was that I was paying the same price for a double room even though I was staying as a single person. I queried this on the phone to the hotel & they said they knew it was one person & I may get something back but when I rang the second time they said this was the price that stands. A bit disappointed because when I put it in as 2 people it came up as same price to pay for same trip. Felt I was paying twice. As meals included were a 2 course meal some night s I had 3 courses & paid the extra myself for the extra course. Maybe in this case an extra course should be offered free of charge. There was a mistake made where I was charged 20 euro for a bottle of wine which was nt my order but charged to my card. Still waiting for this to be refunded. A great hotel - staff fab - food amazing but that little blip with the cost I felt could have been handled better.

Kevin scored 4 / 5 on 22/06/2021

We had a fantastic time at the Harlequin Hotel. All aspects of our stay went incredibly smoothly - from check-in to check out. I had worried that the great deal we'd got through BargainBreaks was too good to be true but everything was perfect. 10/10!

Noc scored 3 / 5 on 02/11/2017

Overall a nice stay: Room was Lovely and very clean. Reception staff are great. Located just across from a lovely park by the lake and very close to everything. Perfect Location. I did have terrible experiences in the bar/restaurant though. Never seen such a disorganised spot. Every table filthy, piles of glasses stacked up at the bar. Staff were not very good, bit rude at times. Arrived for dinner and gave my room number and girl struggled to find a table that was clean, eventually sat us down and we had to set our own table with knifes and forks etc (same happened for breakfast) and they didnt even bother to help. Dinner was just dropped in front of us and the server just ran off. Dinner was tasty but the cereal bowl of milky defrosted veg was a bit of a turn off. Ordered an Irish Coffee after dinner. 15mins later no sign, was asked my room number and told it was on the way, 10 mins later no sign, again Im asked my room number, girl checks on it to make sure it is being made, 10 mins later.... it is not being made at all, I get up to leave and Im called back and asked my room number for the 4th time to settle the bill. €6.50 for a warm glass of white wine mmm Sadly this did put me off staying again but the rest of the stay was very nice.

I recently stayed in the Harlequin Hotel, Castlebar. The facilities were brilliant. I had free WiFi during my stay in the hotel. The dinner and breakfast were very nice. I had booked a wheelchair accessible room through the hotel €109) and a wheelchair accessible room through the Lidl breaks. I was worried that the third party would not take in to account that I was booking a wheelchair accessible room as opposed to a standard room so I filled in the "special request" section on the page, stating I needed a wheelchair accessible room. I was quoted €83 through LIDL breaks which is €26 cheaper than the wheelcair accessible room I booked directly through the hotel. I was disappointed to hear, on arrival, that the hotel did not have ANY record of my room booked through LIDL breaks, despite making assurances of this over the phone, 24 hours earlier. However, I would thank the lady at reception who wasted no time in booking the other room for my colleague at the rate I was quoted. But, I would have to state that there was an element of luck involved as, if the other room was not available, we would have had to share a room with one double bed; not an ideal situation when you've just traveled two and a half hours by bus. I thank the Harlequin hotel for a great stay and I would have no hesitation recommending the venue to anyone. But, I would urge the third party, on this occasion, Lidl breaks, to communicate better with the hotel(s) with regard to special requests. There is no point having the "special requirements" section on the page if neither the hotel or Lidl make note of it and confirm with each other as well as the customer.

Stayed here last Saturday night and it was superb. The Hotel Receptionist was very welcoming and the room was spectacular. We had dinner also which was very good and I would recommend anyone who wants to stay in Castlebar to stay here, simply fantastic. The only thing missing was the swimming pool but other than that very nice.

Harlequin Hotel is a really nice hotel situated beside the Peace park in Castlebar and the N5 Westport/Dublin road. I found the staff really nice, friendly and helpful. We upgraded out booking to a Suite room for the weekend (307) at a cost of €50 per night. The room was nice and spacious but as it was uncharacteristically hot weekend in Ireland the room was very stuffy when we arrived due to the fact that there was a large glass window wrapping around the room and only two small windows. We had the blinds drawn most of the weekend to try to keep the room chilled. The rest of the room was very nice, the one disappointment was the fact the bed was two single beds attached together which I found quite strange for a Suite not to have a real double bed. The bathroom was a standard bathroom which was a little disappointing not to have an upgraded feel to it but the bath/shower was nice and worked well. There was a kitchen area with a sink, fridge and Microwave but absolutely not cutlery or extra glasses. Just empty presses and drawers. We ate in the restaurant, which is located in the same area as the reception and in turn you can smell food throughout the hotel. The food was gorgeous and the service was brilliant as with all the staff in the hotel. Prices were also very reasonable. There was a small confusion with the bill at the end as the reception desk did not seem to have the discounts from the booking through group schemes but this was sorted in the end and we paid the correct amount as booked. Overall I would recommend the hotel and would happily stay there again.

Enjoyed our stay in Harlequin Hotel. Great location, very comfortable bedrooms, staff pleasant and helpful. We thought that the breakfast was good, the food freshly cooked and a nice range of fruit and breads. The only quibble we would have is the carpark. We overshot the hotel (could be better signposted!) and had trouble identifying how to approach the car park. Perhaps the hotel could post a map identifying how to approach and access the car park?

My husband and I stayed in the lovely Harlequin once again last Sunday night. Our stay was faultless. Staff lovely, so welcoming, friendly, chatty & efficient. Free car parking in multi storey adjoining hotel is a real bonus. Room lovely, warm, cosy, bed very comfortable. Dinner was sooo tasty, as was breakfast, plenty of choice and the usual diced fruit to "die" for. Hotel's location is a bonus, beside shops yet just out of town centre and next door to T.F. theatre. Bar bit of a disappointment, it's really only a small counter at the side of the dining room, we went elsewhere for our drinks. Thank you staff for another great overnite, we will be back.

D scored 2 / 5 on 30/10/2013

Overall I was not impressed by this hotel. Hard to believe it is a 4 star. While there are positives i.e. within walking distance of the town and free parking, the room we were in was on the side of the hotel situated beside the road. Therefore it was extremely noisy, especially at night time when all you could hear was boy-racer cars zooming up and down the road endlessly. The suite itself was lovely, comfortable and spacious, however, when we opened the window about 20 flies fell to the floor and these were not cleaned up at any point over our three night stay. The breakfast was delicious with a great variety of foods. Our package included a two course meal each night (supplement for certain foods). We each had the steak one night and I can say it was the worst steak I ever had - my partners was also bad. It was bland with no taste and no vegetables/potatoes were given with it until we asked. The chicken and beef we had on the other nights was delicious though! The fact that there is no 'bar'/pub (as in a separate room) was very weird. The open plan reception/lobby/bar/restaurant area gave a very un-cosy feel to the hotel.

We were glad it was just a 1 night break. We requested a non smoking roon, but our room 425 smelt of cigarette smoke. The silk runner at the end of the double bed had cigarette burn holes, and also stains, I did mention this at checkout, as I felt that housekeeping should have noticed this when making up the bed. Breakfast was a joke as the hotel dining room did not have enough space for their guests. We were asked for our room number and told we had to wait until a table became available. At least 10 couples before us waiting for tables. It was like being at bingo, calling the room numbers as tables became available. Dinner the evening before was fair not much choice, but for the price we paid I suppose this was fair. I would not class this hotel as a four star, no face cloths in the bathroom, glad I brought my own slippers and facecloth, most 4 star hotels we have stayed in provide these, also no bottled water. The staff were friendly, but I would not stay in this hotel again.

Stayed in the hotel for a weekend - staff were lovely and friendly. We were expecting more of a boutique hotel to be honest, felt this hotel was more of a 3star with funky decoration as opposed to a 4star boutique. Room lovely and big, no mini bar though which was a disappointment and the view was the roof and graveyard. Curtains were stained as was the carpet although the bedroom and bathroom were very clean. Walking distance to shops, restaurants. Breakfast was ok, definitely not 4 star standard though.

I stayed at the Harlequin Hotel for the first time recently and I can only describe the hotel itself as beautiful. The decor, cleanliness, rooms all exceeded my expectations. I didn't have an evening meal at the hotel but the breakfast was very good. Also the staff were very friendly and to get it at such a good rate through Lidl breaks is an added bonus.

The Dinning room is in the wrong place and should be moved to one of the Conference rooms this would open the bar It is the case that the bar in the hotel is small but the pint of Guinness is really good. We had a very nice stay at the weekend. The room was lovely and cozy. The meal was nice. The staff were very friendly. The only thing i was dissapointed about was that there was no pool.. I came accross a website that said ye had a pool and then I went on lidil breaks to book it as it was great value. The way I discovered there was no pool was when i rang down to reception to see what the closing times were. I was very disspaointed to find out there was no pool as was my partner..because he had a back injury and was looking forward to a swim. Ill paste a link to show you where it said about a pool. http://www.hotelscombined.ie/Hotel/Harlequin_Hotel_Castlebar.htm

Thanks a million to Lidl & Harlequin Hotel for a fantastic stay!!! Rating is 10/10. This is our second stay here. The hotel is very central in Castlebar near all main shops, park, playground. They also validate your car parking. So on the day you check out of your room, your parking fee is covered for the day, so you can spend as long as you like wandering around town or in the shops. Really nice friendly staff at the reception. Rooms very comfortable and modern. Nice design. Flower paintings on walls. Compliments to the chef and waiting staff for a fantastic dinner & breakfast. Looking forward to see you all again soon!!!! We have no faults to say about the hotel.

Nice hotel with very friendly staff. Rooms were nice with comfy beds. However, we had a room at the front of the hotel and the noise from 'boyracers' driving up and down the road was awful. Although this is not a hotel issue it was very off-putting. The hotel is in a good location with only a few minutes walk to shops and bars. Hotel needs a bar in the hotel as the current bar seems to be part of the restaurant and is quite small.

I originally wanted to book a room at the venue (Breaffy Woods Hotel) but they were booked out. This was actually to my favour. The Harlequin Hotel was a far superior hotel and the staff were more than friendly. I asked them directions to the venue and they were more than happy to oblige. We stayed here at the weekend with our 2 small children. Our room was spacious and really clean. Reception staff were friendly. The restaurant staff were friendly too. The only problem that we had was when we went to have our dinner which was included in the deal, a waiter who was not actually serving us shouted 3 times toour waiter that we were on a Lidl deal!!! There was no need to shout it out and also it informed other customers what deal we were on. It made us feel like we were beggars looking for a scrap of food. And also the one portion of vegetables that we got for myself and my husband was so small, there was barely enough for 1 never mind 2 of us. Our daughter, whose meal we paid for, got a bigger potion of vegetables for herslf!!! Other then this, we enjoyed our stay.

Jacqui scored 2 / 5 on 01/05/2011

nice hotel, very clean but dont do it on a lidl deal, reception staff are lovely but the restaurant staff made us feel like freeloaders, the girl gave us our menu, explained we could order 2 courses from a certain section, we both ordered starter and main, whilst waiting for our food the restaurant manager? (asian guy) came to the table to remind us that we couldnt order anything else because we were on an offer that only included 2 courses, we hadnt tried to order anything else so why the need to reinforce our deal in a busy restaurant our room smelled funny, bit like antiseptic couldnt get shower to work, reception staff were helpful when we told them if you have to go to castlebar its a nice hotel but if you're just looking for a cheap break away go to galway and stay in the westwood, we stay there about 6-7 times a year on the lidl deal and its great, we often have lunch there as well, we buy wine with dinner and we tip handsomely cos we're on a deal but we ordered no wine and left no tip at the harlequin, food wasnt amazin, choice was limited and there was a lot of fat, a lot, on my beef and i noticed that our veg portion was half the size of other couples..who were obviously not on a deal, cheapest wine on the menu was %u20AC19.50 so that probably explains why most people were only havin a glass rather than a bottle

Lidl Breeaks are good value for money and we look forward to more breaks with Lidl in the fuuture. Many thanks to all concerned. Victor and Betty Allison

Lee scored 5 / 5 on 05/04/2011

very comfortable stay, the restaurant was lovely, however would not feel this was a 4 star hotel, rooms very clean, carpet a bit worn, apart from the restaurant there was nothing else to do in hotel, no leisure facility etc,

We stayed here for one night . We booked the dinner, bed and breakfast deal. The room was lovely, comfortable and spotless clean. The food was magnificent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our kids went to see Jedward and they had a fantastic time while we had a lovely dinner in the hotel. I cant say enough about this hotel. I have stayed in many hotels but this one is up there in my top three. I would highly recommend it. It is also within easy reach of the town. 2 minute walk. m donalds is just accross the road. Some very nice shops nearby and i got some great bargains when my daughter and i went shopping. If you are going to a show then the theatre is right beside the hotel.

Thank you for your e-mail that I received recently from you. We had a lovely stay in your Hotel, and we plan to come to the hotel again very soon. I think that the Lidl breaks are very good value for money, they make a good chance to see more of the Country and what it has to offer at good prices for everyone on a reduced rate. Thanking You, Frank Farragher.

Hotel was lovely, breakfast was excellent, bit noisy at night with boy-racers outside petrol station.

Hog scored 3 / 5 on 01/11/2010

Good hotel room. nice and clean and modern. At front of hotel. the room was warm so we opened window. Noise from traffic outside was loud. ( I think there were boy racers going up and down). Good location otherwise 5 min walk to the town. Food in restaurant good. Liked the complimentary pumpkin soup with the meal. Breakfast good but not wow. Lidl value for money was v good.

The hotel is well located, clean and very contemporary. The inclusion of dinner in the price, which was extremely tasty, made this night away very good value for 2 people.

Great Hotel, Rooms are bright and modern and very comfortable. Hotel is spotless, staff friendly and very efficient. Great location, right in the centre of castlebar. We didn't use the restaurant but the breakfast we had sent to our rooms was very good. My only compaint is that there is no proper bar, only a lobby where you could have a drink.

Really enjoyed our stay Rooms bright and clean, excellent food, staff very friendly and helpful All in all great value for money

Dee scored 5 / 5 on 20/09/2010

Hotel was very nice. Restaurant is quite expensive so we ate in the town of Castlebar each evening as we were only on the B&B rate. Decor in the hotel is lovely and the room was clean and bright. The bar was not very appealing as it is right beside the reception area and restaurant in a kind of open plan style. A separate room for the bar and for the restaurant would be more ideal. There are plenty of bars and places to eat in Castlebar, which is very close to the hotel. All in all, it was a pleasant stay and I would return, maybe opting for the Lidl option including dinner next time. Good value break.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Harlequin Hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although there was not a leisure centre in the hotel we were offered vouchers for a nearby leisure centre which we did avail of and this was great value. We were informed about local events by staff. The Hotels proximity to the Theatre and town centre couldnt have been any better !! Our room was very spacious and very nice. As for the food, it was second to none on both nights as was the service. As regards being on a "Lidl Break" we have to say we never felt we were on a cheap weekend break such was the standard of service , food etc. It really was great value for money!!

The hotel was lovely and very clean and well equiped. The staff were friendly and the service was good. The food was lovely also. The only thing that I would have improved was the eating area is not so private as it was back to back with the sitting area.
